About the Project

The Anonymous Nude Project began with a conversation with another photographer about what it means to step out from behind the camera and in front of it. She had already made that leap, shooting artistic nudes while matching her own level of dress to the people she photographed.

It raised an honest contradiction. I spend my days working with people who are completely at ease being photographed nude, and yet the thought of strangers seeing me that way made me uneasy. That led to one simple question:

“Could I ever have nude pictures taken if nobody would ever know?”

That question became the project. I wanted to give men and women a way to find out what they would do, given the chance to pose nude anonymously, with no chance of anyone finding out. The work is about confidence and control, and what it really means to bare yourself for the sake of art.
